How can Democrats re-engage millions of rural NC voters? About one-third of North Carolinians live in its 80 rural counties. In 2024, the closest wins in the State House were in rural districts: two wins gave Democrats the seats needed to break the Republican supermajority. In 2026, the most likely seat to break the Senate majority is also in those rural counties.
Hear from the speakers who are on the cutting edge of this work in rural counties:
US Rep. Don Davis, whose district encompasses parts of 22 rural counties;
Sarah Jaynes, founding Executive Director of the Rural Democracy Initiative (RDI);
Stephanie Johnson, Program Officer of RDI and their lead staff working in NC.
