Lean Left Vermont’s mission is to build a stronger, more just democracy by empowering Vermont activists to work on behalf of voters in other states. We promote meaningful, sustained actions that focus on supporting and protecting the vote and building democratic power at the local, state and federal levels.
Lean Left Vermont got its start as a Central Vermont–based group of activists who came together after the 2016 election through a shared desire to undo the Republican hold on our country. Operating on the belief that we could support state-level and Congressional candidates outside Vermont, we grew from a core group of 7 local activists to more than 1500 activists throughout New England and around the country. We’ve expanded our work to include support of critical issues like voting rights and ending gerrymandering because we recognize that equal and fair access to the ballot box is how we elect candidates who will protect our most vulnerable and fix our broken system.
Protecting the vote and building Democratic power is a year-round job. Our commitment to improving our democracy will require a thoughtful, sustained effort to educate ourselves, identify our priorities, and develop lasting relationships with organizers on-the-ground in our target states, not just during a high-profile election year but every year, for every election.
